Audit complete ✅ + wiki updates

Whoops, a bit late! But here are our updates as of the end of July~

Hop on! (action encouraged)

Trying a new section for this bulletin to bring your attention to places where action is required or encouraged:

  • RSVP to the Summer Gathering on Tuesday, August 18! It will be really nice to be together

  • We sent out an email inviting all of you to be connected to another project! If you would like to opt-in, simply respond affirmatively, and we will connect you within the next week or two

  • We are planning to start facilitating peer skill-share sessions between projects! If you have any skills or interests you would be interested in presenting to other projects, or if there is something you would like to learn, let us know~

  • Reach out if you are interested in getting into GrantStation, our new grants database!

  • If you have not already, or if you want to update your allocation, submit your “vote” (pw: “solidarity”) to the Member Fund! Grant-writing and fundraising workshops have nearly met their budget!

Audit complete!

Raft has reached a major milestone! A few weeks ago, we successfully passed our first independent audit. Alongside bringing on a second staff member - as we did a couple months ago - this is one of the two key things we have been working towards for the last two years. It is emotional, actually, given all the work we have put it - and that all of you have put in! - to make sure that all our documentation was in order. The audit was pretty easy actually, and that’s really thanks to all of you. And so we say: THANK YOU!

The audited financials are now on the key information page of the private wiki. (If you cannot access them because you have not joined RaftTalk yet, just use this link.)

Wiki updates

We made a lot of small but needed updates to the wiki this month:

  • Cash: added note that projects cannot run raffles or other games of chance themselves

  • Checks: added a note about how slow they are

  • Contractors (Model A): added guidance on splitting time across multiple subprojects on OC

  • Employment (Model A): added a new employment calculator, as well as more info on costs, health insurance, retirement, and other ancillary benefits

  • Expense cards (Model A): added note that memos flow into OC, and that we sometimes use Brex comments to communicate

  • Expense checklist: added notes on account creation, expense descriptions, and expense comments

  • Grant applications: noted that if 501(c)(3) status is not required, Model C projects can apply directly, and a note on competition between projects

  • Grant requests (Model C): highlighted the fact that Model C projects must also approve their own grant requests

  • Information for donors: noted 1% fee on crypto donations and that projects should never collect donors’ card information

  • Insurance (Model A): a new overview page!

  • International expenses: updated guidance to include Wise limitations for Brazil and India

  • Invoice expenses (Model A): minor updates to the invoice standards - shouldn’t affect anyone, just some info was missing

  • Payment processor fees: a new page!

  • Structural accountability: added note that we do not take an admin cost allocation on transfers between projects

  • Unpayable expenses: added guidance around expenses predating a project’s engagement with Raft

Operational notes

  • New projects: Please join us in welcoming Autonomy, Ephemeral Social, Puget Sound Mutual Aid Group, Deaf Relief Gaza, Eastside Urbanism, Governance and Placekeeping in NYC, and Attention!

  • Private wiki access: Join RaftTalk so that you can view the Private Wiki pages! Use this invite link~

  • Form password: Don’t forget, the password for all internal forms is currently “solidarity”!

  • Announcements and celebrations: Have something to announce or celebrate? Send it our way and we will include it in the next bulletin.

Thank you for everything you do! Email us anytime with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Nathan and Ember
